The Game. The Characters. General Questions. THE GAME How does time advance in the game? Time will advance like any other game one IC day for one IRL day. Whatever the calendar date is IRL is the date it will be IC except for the year since this game is set in the future. What is the time period like in which the game takes place? The game takes place in Chicago during 2025. Even though it is 17 years into the future, technology is very similar to what we have today. There are no flying cars or anything like that. Phones are probably slimmer than they are today, computers smaller, that sort of thing but nothing too sci-fi or out there. [When it doubt, ask!] As far as the city goes, all of the same buildings and landmarks are still there but they are more rundown and worn looking. Think Gotham [Batman Begins/Dark Knight] except that there isn't a kickass guy in a bat costume trying to clean up the streets. How should community posts be formatted? If the content is going to be heavy in sex, violence, drug use, etc., there should also be a rating added and the post should be friends-locked. All other posts should be left unlocked. If the post is meant to be a narrative, please note that at the top. Also remember that all threading should be done in third person. AIM logs should be posted the same way. How do personal journals work? Just like every other game out there with journaling. Except here the Mayor decided to push journals on all the citizens as a means of trying to bring the city back together. Unfortunately they’re used more for drug deals and placing hits but his intentions were good. First person entries can be posted here as well as song lyrics, poems, random lists, etc. All entries will be viewable by the public unless otherwise noted. Private entries should be made clear by either using an LJ-cut tag with "Private to ___" or just making a bolded note at the top of the entry. Example: [Private to Jane Doe] You, me, and chocolate sauce. Tonight. [/Private] When replying to private entries please make a note of it in the subject line of the comment. Example: "Private to Jane John" Or something similar. How do icons in personal journals work? Characters can see the icons that are used so please exercise common sense when selecting an icon. Not every character will feel comfortable showing a lot of skin, etc. How do Anything Is AIM threading allowed? Yeah, we don’t really care just be sure to post it unless you’re just smutting it up or something. How does AIM chatting between characters work? Just like it does for the rest of us. If your character is a friend of another character's then chances are that they have their AIM screen name. If your character technically shouldn't know someone's screen name but wants to chat them up, they can always acquire it through a third party if it is feasible. Or hell, this is a mob game so maybe they paid/threatened someone for it! Do I have to have an AIM screen name for my character? Nope, that's entirely optional and up to you. Do I have to have an OOC AIM screen name? Again, completely optional. CHARACTERS What kind of role can a character have? Characters can range from being the top dog of a mob or a janitor at the local high school. Can a character be a "free agent" as in working for all groups? Depending on what sort of work they do, it would be possible. However, if it's something big like weapons or drug dealing, the groups would not be okay with sharing so the free agent would have to be careful with that. Basically if that person were to get found out, it probably wouldn't be pretty. Can a character be addicted to sex, drugs or rock n' roll? Sure but be smart about it. Not everyone is going to be a crack head or super slut. If it makes since to have them be an addict then go for it but back it up with good reasoning in their bios. Waking up one day and deciding that Meth was the cool thing to do is not a good reason. Can a character get knocked up? Yes as long as: 1. They are female. 2. It makes sense for the plot to go that way. 3. It is done in moderation. If everyone starts getting pregnant, the mods are going to have to step in and take some action. All pregnancies will last a full nine months in game. So you'll be in it for the long haul. So wait, a character can be in charge of other characters? Like a boss or an underboss? Yes. However, please do not god-mod simply because your character is in charge. Orders can be given to the peons beneath them but it is up to those peons if they wish to follow through with it. And be reasonable. If the character doesn't follow an order then it is up to the players of both characters to decide on a punishment before it is given. Unless of course you want the other one to surprise you but then you have to live with whatever happens. I want a boss/underboss for my first character, is that okay? You can app any position you want to in the beginning. As long as the application is well written, it doesn't matter which level of character you try to play. Can a character kill NPC's? Again, within reason. NPC's are allowed to be killed/tortured/whatever. This is a mob game, death and violence are expected. However, if your character kills people from another family, don't be surprised when they come looking for revenge. If you want to have your character kill the father/mother/sister/etc. of another character in the game, check with that player first. Can a character own his/her own business? Yes. However depending on the area and the family that "runs" it, they will most likely have to pay that family some sort of "protection fee" that will be outrageous and suck. If they are a member of that mob then the fee will be less/non-existent depending on the relationship to the head of that family. GENERAL How long should posts/replies be? This is not a one-liner community. There isn’t a required length but if you’re looking to get away with a sentence or two, that won’t fly here. Can I reply to any post? As long as the post is marked as "open" then yes please! We definitely want to encourage everyone to jump into open posts rather than just putting up new ones and hoping someone will reply. Ideally everyone will interact with each other at some point so if you want to post, hit up the open ones first! However, if an open post already has a reply but you still want to join in, please contact the other players involved to make sure that they are cool with joining in. How often should I post/update my character? As often as you want! But since we want this game to keep active and moving, if you do not update your character at least once every three weeks, you will receive a warning email from the mods. We understand that RL > RP but if you need a break/hiatus, please let us know. If we do not hear back from you we will assume that you are no longer interested in the game and you will be removed. How many characters are we allowed to have? Right now the max character limit will be 3 characters per player. Is there a waiting period in between apping characters? As long as your first application didn't have a lot of changes, no, but this is up to the mods' discretion. |
